Authors Take Advantage of Group Copyright Registrations for Unpublished Works

If you are an author who has written multiple works that have not yet been published, you should look into registering your works in a group registration. It’s fast, easy, and affordable. Specifically, you can register up to 10 literary works for a $55 fee. However, please note that this option is only available for online applications.

Group Registration for Unpublished Works Requirements

To be eligible, note the following:

· All the works must have the same creator (or creators).

· The creator(s) must also be named as the copyright “claimant.”

· All the works registered must be the same type of work (for our purposes, e.g., literary works).

· All of the works must be “unpublished.” Note it’s sometimes difficult to determine this last factor. If you have any questions, we can help determine if you work is indeed “unpublished.”

Why Should You Register Your Copyright?

It’s always a good idea to register your copyright because you cannot bring a federal lawsuit without it. In addition, registering your copyright makes you eligible for statutory damages and attorney’s fees in court that you may not otherwise be able to get if your unpublished work is infringed before it’s registered.
